Weedmaps presents at medical cannabis conference in Mississippi

Weedmaps participated in the first ever Mississippi Medical Marijuana Association -- also known as 3MA -- event held on May 5, 2022 at the Sheraton Hotel in Flowood, Miss.
The sold out conference was billed as a networking event for those in the cannabis industry. The event comes on the heels of the Mississippi Medical Cannabis Act that was passed by the State Legislature in February 2022. The Act formally established the state’s first medical cannabis program, an effort that was approved by more than 74% of Mississippi voters in November 2021. Weedmaps has actively worked with 3MA, the local organization that worked directly with legislators to promote a well-developed bill and sustainable medical marijuana program.
“The turnout for this event was wonderful and indicative of the strong support that medical cannabis enjoys among Mississippians,” said Declan Binninger, Senior Director of Government Relations at Weedmaps. “Coming off of the event, we are excited about the opportunity this effort has for Mississippi and truly encouraged by the thoughtfulness the department of Health demonstrated in drafting the regulations that will give shape to the state’s medical program as it gets underway.”
The day-long event included a welcome from Ken Newburger, Executive Director of 3MA, and included sessions on legislation, regulation, and the importance of cannabis testing across the state. Weedmaps Head of eCommerce Johnny Li was part of the “Dispensary Solutions and eCommerce” panel alongside Gary Cohen, CEO of Cova Software.
While the State Department of Health as well as the Department of Revenue are working to establish regulations for the Miss. medical industry, 3MA anticipates businesses should be able to apply for licenses by July of this year.
